The Naked Ground

The Naked Ground to Joyce Kilmer. As you arrive at the Benton McKay Trail Head you will have a short 1 mile hike along a flat trail, then the real work begins. You have 7 miles straight up hill then through a rhododendron patch. After you get through the rhododendron patch you will get to a big beech tree and a big opening. This is Bobs Bald, continue on the trail for another 2 miles and you will get to the naked ground camp site. If you continue on that trail another mile you will get to the Hangover.  The Hangover is a high overlook over the Cherokee and Nantahala.
